What is the difference between silk painting with dyes and gutta resist and batik? And are there different? kinds of Batik-like what is done in the U.S. versus what is done in Bali?
Does anyone know an online UK supplier of water soluble/powder dyes/inks for batik/painting etc? I just bought one of those spherical paper lampshades in plain white and I thought it would be easy enough to find dyes online that I could buy to paint/personalise it, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything so far. I've used water soluble dyes on paper and fabric before in school while doing A-Level art, unfortunately, I'm now finished school and I can't borrow them for my own personal projects anymore ): Does anyone know a UK based online store that stock this kind of thing, or any suggestions on what I could use in the place of dyes - I thought of acrylic, but it's both quite opaque and could melt from the heat of a lightbulb.. Thanks! Jessica
How do I do a faux BATIK effect on a wall? I have a quilt done from ANDROSIA fabric scraps. I want to paint the walls to match.

Who among you knows about the art of Pysanky? I'm quite a newbie to this kind of art.I'm a novice batik artist who wanted another kind of batik.i.e.painting eggs ukrainian style(Pysanky). I wondered if any of you(members of YA)is a practicing Pysanky artist be it a novice or an expert. If you know the method of doing it,it would be good especially the variations of Pysanky. Tell me more about it and be informative. If you can improvise certain things in Pysanky and get good results, tell me more about it.I'm willing to learn.

Ideas on how to transfer images onto fabric for an eco friendly project? As part of eco-schools we need to transfer images onto white cotton. I was just wondering if anyone had any new ideas. Eco-friendly ideas would also be excellent. The images might end up being images the kids have drawn, photos and also the fairtrade logo will be on it. These are the ideas I have come up with so far. The pupils are from 11-16. Embroidery machine, Applique, Use image maker, Fabric Paints Printing (lino/ stencil etc..) Batik Any other ideas???
Cheap way to make a Batik? Ok, so I was in art class and we had this project to make and it was called a Batik, its a tradtion that Mexicans make for the Day of the Dead holiday. I need to know what kind of fabric to get that would be good and CHEAP to buy at like a JoAnne Fabrics or another craft store. Also a water base paint, that wont soak through, and wont stain clothes. After your done with the painting process, your suppose to let it dry and then soak it in warm water, thats why I need water base paint. So again I need to know.... 1. Cheap fabric for Batik( preferably a stiffer fabric) 2. Brand of water base paint.
I'm painting my room two shades of green..? And I want to make it a mix of earthy and retro/hippie. I've got old records, batik tapestries, a bean bag, a plant for the corner, ceiling shelving, door beads over my closet... And tons of posters. Does the earthy green not go with the more retro hippie? Would just going with a burnt orange be better?
What are the arts &crafts that one can learn/? please say other than knitting,painting,crochet,embroidery,floral-making,batik work thank u.
How to find my customers for tibetan jewelry, ethnic clothes, and bags.? I have an online store(http://www.isinoshop.com). Our products contain Tibetan Jewelry, Necklace, Bracelet, Earring, Yak bone jewelry, Nepal jewelry, Miao jewelry, Cloth bag, Wallet, Cellphone bag, Nepal dress, Tie dye clothes, Scarf, Leather painting, and Batik painting. I cost near half year to finish the building. Now it's the next step to promote the store. I want to know how and where to find my customers. I know this is a question not easy to answer. But any advice is appreciated. You can also introduce some book about online marketing. Thank you very much.
I need an idea for AS Level Art & Design topic ASAP!? I need an idea for AS Level Art & Design topic. I was originally going to do 'Portraiture' and focus on 1940's style icons and for my final piece, I was going to make a dress inspired by the 1940's but give it a modern twist and make it something that Audrey Hepburn would wear if she were still alive today... Although, my teacher told me that because I'm doing people, my final piece wouldn't match my topic because it would be sort of like an investigation which means I have to change my whole topic entirely. The final piece I have in mind is still going to look very 1940's no matter what I do my topic on. I have 3 dresses in mind at the moment. To make the first modern, I was thinking I could find a nice, green leopard print (or maybe paint/batik my own if I couldn’t find one that looked quite expensive). The other idea I had for a final piece was to make a dress that also looks 1940's but instead of buying print, I could buy fabric paint and paint flowers all over it. The final idea I had was similar to the second only instead of painting flowers all over it; I could paint a line of them down the front. (I’m sorry if you’re not getting this but you have to be in my head to be able to imagine it, it’s fabulous☺). I know what you’re thinking, for those I could either choose Flowers, Animals or Nature (which would include them both) although, I’m not really a ‘flower person’ and I couldn’t possibly name many flowers in order to explore different kinds. I also may find it becoming very boring and repetitive and I don’t want that to happen encase I loose my concentration and my work quality suffers (like it did at GCSE stage when my topic was Fruit and Vegetables). At the minute, I’m thinking of changing my final piece but I don’t really want to as I want to have a career in Fashion when I leave school so it’s really important to me that I choose clothes. Any ideas what I could do? PLEASE help me come up with ideas ASAP.
How to get full marks on ART GCSE? I'm taking double art, and it's 100% coursework. Currently we've done the following topics: War (WW2) Identity Still Life Print making Batik Jugs and at the moment we're doing this one on 20th century art. I havent done much for War, Print making and i think i'm going to do something else than the jug thing. But i'm really ahead with my 20th century art project. I'm going to re-do Still life and Identity as i'm not 100% happy with it and i wouldn't feel comfortable entering something which i'm not happy with Basicially we have alot of freedom on what we can do. But i'm not sure what to do on the projects.. Like what should i do to boost my grade. My teacher said i'm able to get Distinction(A*) if i do everything to a high standard which i'm able to do. What kinda things should i put in my project to get good grades? How should i present my work? (i do my work in A3 books) Any ideas of what i should do instead of the Jug thing? Like what would impress the fella that comes in and marks my work? I'm able to do anything i want. I'm okay at batik, portraits and painting. I believe i can do well, but i'm just unsure what i should do to get a really good mark. Also, this week i'm going out buying more art materials..what should i go and get? I already have water colours, acrylics, graphite pencils, pencils, putty rubber, decent brushes, charcoal.. I have already bought a lot of things at Home Goods, including a comforter with a green long grass pattern. I'm thinking that the color scheme of the room is going to be mostly green, off white, black,a little bit of orange and maybe some other colors thrown in. I have a big painting that I bought that will tie in all of these colors. The walls will most likely be a light green with an off white carpet. If you have any other ideas to make my room better they would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Also my room is pretty small so i can't do anything too big.
