What is the best material for batik and what is the best ink?

Public Comments

  1. silk and cotton
  2. Natural fabrics are the best for ink absorption. Personally I like silk, but have also worked with thin cotton gauze. For ink, I've had luck with fiber reactive procion dyes. A great place to find inks and ink types are on this website: http://www.dharmatrading.com I've also made my own fabric dyes from things you can find at the grocery store. Natural vegetables dyes can be extracted from fruits and vegetables such as beets, carrots, almost any berry. Teas and spices can be interesting to use such as turmeric, cinnamon, and black tea. The type of wax you use can also vary. Good luck and have fun.
